Jack had given Brent an excellent documentary on human behavior and social psychology called “This Emotional Life” and Brent saw the 1st part of the 3-part series that Jack bought.
“This is really good, and I can relate to a lot of what it says,” Brent exclaimed to Jack minutes after Jack entered his apartment.
“It is, you learn a lot when they discuss aspects of relationships between couples”
“Speaking of couples, that’s pretty nice that Karla let Joe (Brent & Jack’s younger brother) play in that band for the past year or so,” Brent stated.
“Yes, she’s a good wife,” Jack replied.
“There were times when she was criticized before”
“True, but you really can’t know success; they’ve been married 20 years.”
“Better than Martha (Jack’s ex)”
“Exactly,” Jack exclaimed, “I think that Karla shares our family’s strength in being resourceful and saving money.”
“Yeah, I heard she’s gone to rummage sales”
“& Martha has never been to one since 1994. She’ll pride herself on spending less than $120 on clothes in a year but then spend too much on groceries and all sorts of crap for the kids,” Jack note.
“& that hurt when you went bankrupt”
“There were a number for the bankrupt. It would be wrong to blame them all on Martha. But those 2 years after the millennium were the 2 worst years of my life. I hope to never go back to those days or the problems that occurred then.”
Brent asked, “Did you want to end it all?” Jack brushed aside the question. “The fact that she can save money well, be a good mother and allow him to do his hobbies, makes her a good wife”
“Yeah, I think so”
